Can You Hear What’s Coming?

Can You Hear What's Coming?

Materials Needed:

Table
Object to make noise with (e.g. block, comb, ruler)

What to Do:

Explain how sounds can travel through the ground and other materials.
Talk about how Indians used to put their ear to the ground and listen to hear if horses or buffalo were coming.
Instruct two children to sit at opposite ends of a table.
Have one of the children put their ear down on the table to listen.
Have the other child use an object to scratch or lightly knock under their end of the table.
Invite children to take turns being the "noisemaker" and the "listener."
