Textured Planes

Materials Needed:
Heavy cardboard ramps (at least two)
Sandpaper
A variety of objects to roll down the ramps ( e.g. marbles, balls, cars, cardboard tubes)
Building blocks (3 inch blocks or 6 inch blocks)
Tape
Glue

What to Do:
Glue sandpaper onto one of the ramps so it is completely covered.
Leave one of the ramps smooth.
Tape the ramps to either the 3 inch blocks or the 6 inch blocks (make sure you use the same size blocks on each of the ramps), to form an inclined plane.
Invite the children to guess which objects will roll faster, down which of the ramps.
Instruct the children roll the same kind of object down each of the ramps at the same time. This is to see whether the objects roll faster on the textured plane or the smooth one.
