Will it Sprout?

Will it Sprout?

Materials Needed:
Image1 6 Flower pots
Image1 Potting soil
Image1 Watering can
Image1 Water
Image1 Seeds (e.g. bean, grass, flower)
Image1 1 penny
Image1 1 piece of candy
Image1 1 small rock
Image1 6 labels
Image1 Marker/pen

What to Do:
Image1 Invite the children to help by putting some potting soil into each of the flower pots.
Image1 Plant the bean seeds in one of the pots, then the grass seeds in another pot and so on until you have planted a different item in each of the six pots. Do not combine any of the items; each item should have its own pot.
Image1 Place a label on each pot and write the name of the item which was planted in that pot.
Image1 After the items have been planted, instruct the children to water the soil and place the pots in a sunny area.
Image1 Remind the children to water the plants on a regular basis.
Image1 Encourage the children to take turns telling you which pots they think will sprout and which ones they feel will not. (You may want to write down their guesses.)
Image1 Invite the children to observe the growth of the plants. Let them know that they should see something happening within a couple of weeks.
