Would You Hold a Caterpillar?

Would You Hold a Caterpillar?

Materials Needed:

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" book by Eric Carle
Posterboard
Marker
Yarn (thick)
Glue
Latex or rubber gloves

What To Do:

Using the marker, write the words "Would You Hold a Caterpillar?" across the top of the poster board.
Using the marker, draw a line down the middle of the poster board to divide it in half, and write "Yes I would" on the bottom of one half, and "No I wouldn't" on the bottom of the other half.
Read Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" book to the children.
Ask each child if they would like to hold a caterpillar.
If he/she says yes, have him/her put on the gloves and place the caterpillar in his/her hand.
After each child answers the question, "Would you hold a caterpillar?", trace his/her hand onto the side of the poster board his/her answer corresponds to, and write the child's name in his/her traced hand.
The children who had their hand traced onto the "yes" side should glue a piece of thick yarn (representing a caterpillar) onto their traced hand.
