Making Waves

Making Waves

Materials Needed:

Baby food jars with lids (one per child)
Vegetable oil
Water
Food coloring

What to Do:

Have the children fill their baby food jar halfway with water.
Then ask them to add two or three drops of food coloring to the water.
Fill each jar to the top with oil and screw the lids on tightly.
Children can then move their jars back and forth to make waves.
Point out the difference in the "weights" of the liquids and the fact that water and oil do not mix.
