Making Peppermint Cocoa

Materials Needed:
Image1 Peppermint candy canes (3)
Image1 Cocoa (1/4 cup)
Image1 Powdered sugar (1 cup sifted)
Image1 Powdered creamer (1cup)
Image1 Wooden or rubber mallet
Image1 Cups
Image1 Boiling water
Image1 Teaspoons
Image1 Measuring cup (1/4 cup)
Image1 Marshmallows
Image1 Safety Goggles

What to Do:
Image1 Crush candy canes by placing them in a plastic bag and help the children hit them with the mallet. Children should use safety goggles when using mallets.
Image1 Combine cocoa, powered sugar and creamer in a container.
Image1 Invite the children to use a teaspoon to scoop out one teaspoon of peppermint and add it to their cup, then help them add ¼ cup of the cocoa mix.
Image1 The teacher will then stir in ¾ cup of boiling water and put up until cooled to warm.
Image1 After the cocoa has cooled, serve the Peppermint Cocoa to the children.
Image1 Teacher may also want to pass out marshmallows to go with the cocoa.

*Makes approximately 9 cups of cocoa.
