Counting Snowballs

Counting Snowballs

Materials Needed:

Cotton balls
Re-sealable plastic bags (snack size and sandwich size)
Measuring cups (1 cup, ½ cup, ¼ cup)
Container to hold the cotton balls (e.g. box, large wide mouth jar, large paper bag)

What to Do:

Place lots of cotton balls into a large container.
Have the children fill a snack size and sandwich size bag with cotton balls.
Ask the children how many cotton balls they think is in each bag. Write down their guesses, and then have them count the cotton balls.
Invite the children to guess how many cotton balls will fit into the 1 cup measuring cup. Fill the measuring cup and then count the cotton balls.
Repeat this process using the ½ and ¼ cup measuring cups.
