Materials Needed:
Image1 Plastic tub (e.g. margarine/butter container, cream cheese container)
Image1 Dowel (6 inch long)
Image1 8 inch piece of sturdy string (such as rawhide/leather)
Image1 Wooden beads (2)
Image1 Foam sheet (any color)
Image1 Embellishments (e.g. sequins, jewels, stickers)
Image1 Glue

 

What to Do:
Image1 Cut a hole in the side of the plastic tub the diameter of the dowel you are using.
Image1 Using the lid of the container, trace a circle the size of the lid onto foam sheet and  then cut it out and glue it to the lid top.
Image1 Invite the children to decorate the container using the embellishments provided.
Image1 Punch small hole in side of the container for the string.
Image1 Tie a knot in one end of the string.
Image1 Slide a wooden bead onto the string.
Image1 Remove the lid from the container and place the string with bead inside the container.
Image1 Push the string end through the hole in the inside of the container until the bead is against inside wall.
Image1 Replace lid onto container.
Image1 Slide second bead onto the string outside of the container and knot end of string.
Image1 Demonstrate to the children how you twist and shake the tom-tom to make noises.
