Preschool Paleontologists

Materials Needed:
Image1 Small tote
Image1 Sand (Enough to fill tote ¾ full)
Image1 Plastic or wooden bones from a dinosaur model
Image1 Miniature plastic dinosaurs
Image1 Plastic eggs
Image1 Trowels, small shovels and toothbrushes
Image1 Paper towels

What to Do:
Image1 Fill plastic eggs with miniature dinosaurs.
Image1 Fill tote ¼ full with sand, add some dinosaur bones and eggs and then fill tote ½ full with sand. Add remaining bones and eggs and fill to about ¾ full with sand.
Image1 Give children trowels, small shovels, and toothbrushes to use in their "dig".
Image1 Explain to the children that the toothbrush should be used to gently brush the sand off their find.
Image1 Explain the job of a paleontologist.
Image1 Place paper towels beside the tote for the children to place their finds.
