Feely Box

Feely Box

Materials Needed:

Large shoebox with lid
Self-adhesive shelf paper, construction paper, or felt
Glue (if using construction paper or felt)
Scissors
Items to put in box

What to Do:

Cover a large shoebox and its lid with either self-adhesive shelf paper, construction paper or felt (all but the self-adhesive shelf paper need to be attached using glue).
Cut a hole in the side of the shoebox large enough for children to stick their hand into.
Cover the hole with a square of material, which has lines cut from the center of the square (see example).
Take off the lid to the shoebox and put items into the box (I suggest using theme related items).
Invite children to take turns reaching into the hole and feeling an object.
Instruct them to try and guess what they think the item is.
