Lifting Ice Cubes

Lifting Ice Cubes

Materials Needed:

Glass of cold water with ice cubes in it
A piece of thread
Salt

What to Do:

Invite the children to take turns guessing how you can take the ice cube out of the glass without touching it.
After everyone has had a chance to guess, soak a piece of thread in cold water.
Lay the piece of thread on top of the ice cube and sprinkle salt on the thread and ice cube.
Instruct the children to count to ten out loud.
Very carefully lift both ends of the string, which should lift the ice cube from the glass.
